Karine Ancellin Saleck has worked as a journalist in Brussels for six years. She was formerly a journalist in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania where she co-founded a newspaper with her husband that was censured and then banned by the government. After this experience she came to Belgium with her four children and has taken to teaching. Her Jewish American mother lives in Los Angeles, her sister in Berkeley and brother in Vegas. Her father is in New York where she spent her adolescent years. Karine received a master’s degree in sociology at the University of Paris VII Jussieu. She is presently researching the question of Muslim identity in novels for her PhD work in literature on “Polar identities in characters of Muslim descent in English language fiction” at the Vrije Universiteit of Brussels. Her hobby is astronomy.
