The advent of the "mosquito device" is truly sad and signals a direction that I hope will be corrected quickly and without second-thought. So many children are falling through the cracks in the US simply from the basic lack of value we place on our children's lives and futures that the only system left to catch them is the justice system (and in my experience, I've rarely seen it offer justice).
It's now recognized in the social service sector that intervention with youth needs to take place at the grammar school level - often by middle or high school, it's "too late" to make a difference. It shouldn't take a scientist or a bunch of studies to figure out children need positive reinforcement and adult influence. People who care, not who seek to repel them like insects.
The US and UK need to re-evaluate their priorities and recognize that the health of a nation is defined by the wellness of the entire population: woman, man and child.
