Could a Politician Like Sarah Palin Exist in Europe?

by Eva Sohlman, World View, USA - I find there is something very sad about this Palinomania. It seems she has become the personification of the identity struggle America is fighting while its economy is on the brink of collapse. McCain’s pick of her plays straight into what I see as a desperate nostalgia for the past -- a nostalgia fueled by a fear of a future where the world order is changing and America’s role as the greatest superpower is faltering.

Great article Eva! A must-read!

With Sarah Palin still a current topic for newscasters, I reread this article. For the same reasons she could not exist as a politician in most of Europe, she should not be a current topic in the USA. (Last night she was again "news.") We are no longer on the brink of economic collapse, but well into economic disaster. Please, please American citizens and media, get serious. Conservatives, get your heads out of the sand---nostalgia and religion will not solve our current crises. Progressives, stop being angry and petty. It's time for serious, responsible news and discussion.
