Sri Lanka Faces Refugee Catastrophe

by Amanda Hodge, The Australian, Australia - The International Committee of the Red Cross has suspended operations in Sri Lanka's desperately strained refugee camps after the Government restricted access to as many as 300,000 displaced people, prompting warnings of a humanitarian disaster.

* It is true around 250,000 people escaped LTTE - the key word hear is that they "escaped" the LTTE, the same group who was supposed to be the liberators of the Tamil people. It was the army who facilitated their escape by breaking huge soil barriers & carrying these people to safety. How could these camps be intermitten camps if accepting the argument that the army is commiting genocide then wouldnt the army have killed these 250,000 people instead of bringing them to safety & feeding them?
* Over 90% of all food, clothing & medicine provided in these camps are provided by the Govt & not the WFP or the ICRC - even the ships that carry these goods are hired & paid for by the Govt....the ICRO & WFP do not like to disclose this fact.
* This author seems to have forgotten to mention that there are over 1million refugees in Pakistan & their conditions no where near that of the IDPs in Sri Lanka.
* Yes the nation has had to pay a high price for peace - over 6000 soldiers have died, over 2000 are permanently injuired & over 30,000 soldiers are also injured - are these also not human beings. No one told the LTTE to take to arms - many are forgetting that it was out of these 250,000 people that Prabakran was replenishing his cadres....why was evyerone silent about this including Mr. Elder...the UN has for years prepared dossiers on child soldiers but now those documents are meaningless for the LTTE top brass are all dead & the youth who have given themselves in are openly saying how they suffered at the hands of the LTTE so what many say from the comforts of foreign nations & Colombo is really meaningless. the Tamil people are worshipping the armed forces for saving them, lets hear their versions instead of those who pay only flying visits & are clueless about what really goes on.
* If many find it hard to believe Prabakaran is dead - let him come out & show himself & disprove what the army claims...not the doctored pictures the Tamil propaganda machinery send out.
* no wars can take place without loss of life...we now are all assured that the end to random deaths by bombs & suicides have stopped - that is good enough for a start.
* may be the same argument makers should do something about the US, NATO bombings on Iraq, Afghanistan & now Pakistan....it seems bombing & killing these innocent people are well & fine.
* Most of these aid agencies are today guilty of directly having links with the LTTE - they are now tryiing to paint a picture to divert the attention from them when they are likely to be investigated for their links & also to how some of them were receiving monetary benefits from the LTTE - to this list include media, NGOs, INGOs & even UN officials.
* there were no such GOvt doctors in these areas & these 3 doctors were obviously giving statements while being with the LTTE - coudl they say anything other than what would suit the LTTE if they valued their lives? the makeshift hospital that was shown on the tv - had concrete structures all over....this immediately made everyone realise that the footage was doctored as was the Channel 4 tv coverage - all blurred & trying to accuse the military.
* when journalism is so corrupt & unethical can the public except truthful information? .
* where is this Tharshini???? All these are very dramatized versions that media use to sell their stories - people are wiser than to fall for these lies.Did Tharshani say who killed her husband...or are we to believe it was the army instead of the LTTE. the army released footage of LTTE shooting the Tamil people.

Many of these media groups, NGOs, INGOs are now without place in Colombo becuase their lies are slowly emerging & now they have to create stories.
