Afghanistan women outraged at proposed family planning law

by Janine di Giovanni, The Guardian, UK - Karzai's initial (ridiculous) defence was that he had not read the law before signing it the first time. Most women here are cynical of his about-turn. "It's an election year," Seema says.

Such an important issue and article, but I'm horrified to find that it's home is in the Life & Style section of The Guardian UK. This is a case of human rights and of international concern for women all around the world. It hardly belongs on a page buried next to articles with titles like, The Great KFC Challenge, Lost in Showbiz, and The Art of Packing. It's both offensive and reckless.

The media wields incredible influence over policy and public perception - it's time that mainstream media recognize this responsibility.

Yes, Sarah, women are still relegated to style.

Thank goodness for the WIP.
