In a way, I would rather like to see the matter of rape and abuse of women prisoners in US prisons at home and abroad receive this kind of scrutiny. Worse yet in this country are reports of women who are not prisoners, nor even officially charged with offenses, being sexually abused by police officers. Unfortunately, violence toward women and men at the hands of those in authority is not limited to just one culture.
I join with others in demanding that my own government abide by international treaties protecting the rights and dignity of all human beings in all situations. I deplore the erosion world wide of human rights which the US has led in the past decade.
