Happy Birthday WIP

As a reader, it’s been a great year watching you grow. You’ve stayed true to your goal of unbiased news from women all over the world. Before the WIP, I never read news online or participated in any online blogs. I still love reading The New York Times, turning the pages and of course, doing the crossword puzzle, but the WIP is a special extension of my daily newsgathering. When I read your stories, I feel engaged with people from all over the world. I am eager to watch the WIP grow and I feel very lucky to have been on this journey with you guys from the beginning. Thank you!

To the WIP community from an American reader

Hello to everyone reading this near and far. I am in New York City, USA. Thank you for creating this website. What's so different about the WIP contributions from the regular news is how connected I feel immediately when I am reading one of your articles. I read about these life experiences that are so different from mine, but as I read them, I feel transported, like I am right there with you. I have never got that before from any kind of news source.
I would like to hear more from Iraqi women as well as female American soldiers in Iraq. WIP staff, have you connected at all with any of these people and is it possible to hear some of their stories?

Men Explain Things to Me

Thank you very much for writing this. I agree with you completely. Whenever I engage in conversation about Prop 8 with fellow Californians who are voting for it, they continually bring up the debate with me of, "well what about our children? I am voting for prop 8 because I don't want it taught in schools." Could you be so kind as to clarify for me what the "it" is that people are fearing is going to be taught in schools?
Thank you again.

Teddy Roosevelt gave us The Square Deal, FDR The New Deal, so what's the Deal here? Obama's got an opportunity to create some powerful reform. He's incredibly intelligent and is surrounded by other incredibly intelligent folks, but will they use their brains and step up to the plate?

I am afraid our candidates don't understand this most basic logic.

As I was reading this article I began thinking about all the different countries that could benefit greatly by returning to traditional farming practices and reforestation. It was really interesting seeing how the United States is hurting Mexico by exporting corn to them. The process actually forces the Mexican farmers out of work, which then sends them to looking for work in places like the United States. Instead of building walls and legislation, why can't the American government help fund programs like CEDICAM, so Mexico can flourish on it's own.
This is a wonderful article and it gives me quite a bit of hope to read it.

I don't understand this "tax holiday" at all. It seems like absolutely the wrong way to deal with this crisis. Why does your article appear so logical, yet government officials don't seem to get it?

I think that there is an opportunity here for a real dialogue on class, race, and religion. Good article.

important article, thank you for including this on your byline portal.

I have been thinking of you and the people of Zimbabwe all day.

I am glad to hear election day is a holiday so everyone eligible has an opportunity to get out and vote. It's time for change and I hope that Saturday it begins with these elections. Thank you for sharing with us.

Thank you Sandra Nyaira for sharing with The WIP community.
